Mini dental implants are substantially smaller than traditional dental implants – they’re about the size of a toothpick and are generally recommended for the stabilization of full bridges or dentures. In many cases, as few as four mini dental implants can be inserted in the front portion of the mouth under mild anesthetic, after which they can be used to provide support for a full replacement set of teeth.
Mini dental implants do not provide as comprehensive or long lasting a teeth replacement solution as regular dental implant procedures, such as the “All on Four”, but they are certainly more favorable than removable dentures. The denture or bridge that is supported by mini dental implants is removable in the sense that it can be snapped on and off the implants, which allows patients to remove them for cleaning. But it cannot slip around or fall out.
Benefits at a Glance:
Mini dental implants offer a handsome suite of benefits for patients who are looking for a fixed teeth replacement solution:
Fast procedure: Once placed, mini implants can immediately be used to support a fixed bridge or denture. This enables Dr. Brueggen to complete the entire procedure – from implant placement to the attachment of a patient’s new teeth – in as little as a few hours. As such, patients are able to leave the Brueggen Dental Implant Center with a full set of functional teeth!
Fewer and less invasive surgeries: Because mini implants are approximately half as big (in diameter) as traditional dental implants, their surgical placement is far less invasive and comes with fewer risks and complications. This includes possible damage to the nerve canal or sinus cavity.
Negates the need for bone grafting: Owing to the slimness of mini implants, they can quite easily be inserted in regions of the jawbone that are lacking volume and density. This provides patients who have suffered from jawbone loss (usually as a result of untreated tooth loss) a fixed option for teeth replacement, almost always without the need for bone grafting first.
Mini implants are cheaper! Mini implants are the low cost dental implant option and can save patients as much as 70% on oral rehabilitation. This is because this technology is fabricated from less expensive materials and incurs lower placement costs.
Convenient alternative option: Mini implants also offer patients who are already wearing a lower denture that is unstable a far more beneficial, comfortable and stable teeth replacement option.
With mini dental implants, patients are literally able to arrive at the Brueggen Dental Implant Center in the morning and leave again with a stabilized denture less than an hour later. This procedure allows patients to return home and enjoy the benefits of teeth that cannot slip around or fall out and the confidence of being able to eat, speak and smile with a confidence they thought they had lost!
